Coach Perry on Weir: “Keanan is a young, athletic player with a lot of potential.  He provides great energy for our team.  He also has a good shooting touch.”

Keanan Weir begins his second year as a member of the Eastern Kentucky Colonels.  He played in all but one game last season as a freshman for Eastern, starting eight of those contests, including seven of EKU’s 18 Ohio Valley Conference games.  His top collegiate outings last year were a 10-point scoring night against Eastern Illinois at home and a nine-rebound performance at league champion Murray State.   Weir came to the Eastern Kentucky program from Martin Luther King High School in Detroit.  As a senior at MLKHS, Weir averaged 16.3 points, 9.6 rebounds and four assists per game, while playing for coach Benny White.  A young player who is still coming into his own as a collegiate player, Weir earned Detroit All-City honors his senior season.  He was one of four ‘97-98 signees from Detroit for second-year Colonel head coach Scott Perry who grew up in that city and who graduated from Wayne State University.  Weir played AAU basketball for Team Detroit.  Former University of Michigan standout and current NBA player (Los Angeles Clippers) Maurice Taylor played in that same program.
