Coach Perry on Hoskin: “Sam is a very strong player who likes to battle on the interior.  He uses both hands and runs the floor very well.  He will continue to make improvements throughout his college career and will become a dominant force in the OVC.”

Sam Hoskin will be playing his first collegiate basketball after sitting out the 1998-99 season.  He was an early signee in November of 1997 for EKU coach Scott Perry.  He came to Eastern from Bishop Borgess High School where he averaged 20.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per contest as a senior.  He led Bishop Borgess to the Michigan state championship as a junior when he averaged 18.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per contest, helping his team to a 26-6 overall record.  He was a two-time All-Catholic League and All-Metro choice for coach Roosevelt Barnes at BBHS.  Twice in his high school career, Hoskin posted 29-point performances.  Hoskin was listed as the ninth best prospect in the state of Michigan by Michigan Prep Spotlight in its 1997-98 pre-season report.  Hoskin played AAU basketball with current EKU teammate Whitney Robinson on the Superfriends team.  The Superfriends organization has produced such current NBA players as Chris Webber, Jalen Rose and Voshon Leonard.
